Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's departure the family, it was managed by her mother, grandmother, and godparents. When she was a young girl Ford was diagnosed with an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to the word association. Ford was attracted to acting in her teens, and joined the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she was a poor for the school. Ford reapplied to Central School of Speech and Drama and, after the fourth time she applied she was eventually admitted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993. However, she already had her TV debut in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in television shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Apart from her regular performances in the theatre, Tate also joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies that were added to Tate's repertoire in 1996.
